His Heart for Haiti

Giving Hope Through Child Sponsorship

Sponsor a Haitian School!

Haitian schools bring the community together.

Haitian schools bring the community together. The future of Haiti is about education!

Here is the situation: An estimated 75% of Haitian children will never learn to read or write. Unlike the U.S., the Haitian government historically has not provided education for its citizens and the majority of Haitian families will never have the means to pay tuition. (Recently there have been several tuition-free government schools built, but we understand they are not paying the teachers.) The churches in every community operate their own schools and they hate to turn away the kids who want to come. So what happens? The teachers do not get paid. We find this situation again and again as we visit these schools.

A school sponsorship benefits the entire community! With monthly support the school can pay their teachers. They can also buy textbooks, have holiday parties or work on building projects that have been stalled. When you sponsor a school, you receive photos of the buildings, the teachers, administrator and each class! We send a map with the location clearly marked and a brief description of the area and the unique situation of that school. You will receive three letters each year providing news and updates about the school. Consider doing a sponsorship as a group (Sunday School, Youth group, Bible study group, Clubs) or as a family. The cost? Currently $125 per month. The reward? Priceless!

If you want to make a real impact in Haiti, this is it. And thanks to many who already sponsor schools! For more information, contact us or visit: http://www.acworldrelief.org/request-a-sponsorship/

Although it doesn't look like it, we made it across safely twice!

Although it doesn’t look like it, we made it safely across this river…twice!

More remote school visits! When the road stops what do you do? Just start walking! Recently we have hiked along some gorgeous streams and rivers as we made our way to several schools. One hike was on completely flat terrain but involved crossing the river several times, others were not as easy as we hiked up and down mountains in the sun! Sweaty we were! But meeting the kids and the teachers at the schools made every effort worthwhile! We are always refreshed by their thankful attitude and how they stick together to have a school with so little!

Teachers Needed…Can You Help?

Urgent Need: Two School Teachers

We are looking for teachers willing to serve in our school in Haiti, starting with the 2015-16 school year. We have seen God work miracles in providing for our students’ needs over this past year and are trusting He will provide for our upcoming school year. The specific needs for the 2015-16 school year include an early elementary teacher and a 7th grade teacher.

This is a great opportunity to serve missionary families while experiencing a new culture!

Do you know someone who might be interested? Please help us spread the word by posting this need in front of your contacts. This can be a short-term commitment (1-2 years) or long-term. Contact us for more information!

Here is the school’s official posting:

Cité Lumière Christian School in southern Haiti is recruiting teachers for the 2015-16 school year. Specific needs include a 7th grade teacher and an early elementary teacher.

CLCS is a multi-cultural, inter-agency Christian school using American curriculum located on a mission center near Haiti’s 3rd largest city. Our student body is made up of missionary children from the US and Germany, children of Haitian pastors, and others as space allows.

CLCS exists to help parents in the Les Cayes area of Haiti fulfill their God-given responsibility of educating their children. Our desire is to present our students with an American-based Christian education that will prepare them for higher education or to re-integrate back into their home cultures. Our desire and goal is to teach a Christ-centered, Biblical worldview to the children who attend CLCS.
