Only in Haiti… (3)

It has been a while since we have compiled interesting things that happen to us here. You never know what a new day will bring in Haiti. We love a little surprise, a new way of looking at things!

Of all the things there are to like about Haiti, on the other hand there is one thing I don’t like…I can’t find the Big Dipper when I look up at night. I don’t know why that makes any difference, but it was just always there every time I looked, and now…it is not. Just a good reminder to me that I am just passing through and this life is certainly temporary!

News! Madam Yadley, our cook, is expecting her third child in March! It will be interesting to have a baby around the house again. We are actually more excited then she is! (It was a surprise for her.) We certainly have that to look forward to…

How do you make doughnuts in Haiti without a doughnut press?

How do you make doughnuts in Haiti without a doughnut press? Madam Yadley has figured it out!

The end result is the same...hot squishy goodness!

The doughnuts turn out great!! And we never get tired of rice with vegetable sauce either!

One minute you are the only ones on the beach...the next minute you have 15 visitors who are content to join you all afternoon...so much for a good rest!

How can you resist buying a hat from this guy? Port Salut beach...

How can you resist buying a hat from this guy? By the way, that’s a hat between his legs too…

We were in church one morning and we all thought the same thing...why? Do they think it is fancy? Did someone lose it? Will we ever know?

We sat down in church one morning and we all looked up and immediately thought the same thing…why is there a beach ball hanging here? Do they think it is fancy? Did someone lose it? Will we ever know!?

This is hard to grasp...I remember changing my Illinois plates for Ohio plates, but I never thought...

Mike remembers changing his Illinois plates for Ohio plates, but he never dreamed he would have this…

  1. It was good to read your e-mail. I think maybe you can see the southern cross in the sky in Haiti. I remember Jason saying that when he was in Malaysia he couldn’t see the north star or big dipper but he could see the southern cross. I don’t know what that looks like but I am a sky watcher. I enjoy reading your latest happenings. Love you all,. A. Dort

  2. We always enjoy reading your posts. Thanks for sharing! Our thoughts and prayers are with you as you celebrate Thanksgiving in Haiti. That is one American holiday that we have found just doesn’t have a parallel in most other cultures.
